Benign Neural Tumors

Schwannoma

A schwannoma is a type of tumor that develops from Schwann cells, which are the cells that form the protective covering around nerves. These tumors are usually benign (non-cancerous) and can occur anywhere in the body where there are nerves, often causing symptoms like pain, numbness, or tingling if they press on nearby nerves. Surgery may be recommended to remove the lesion, especially if the lesion is causing symptoms.

Neurofibroma

A neurofibroma is a type of tumor that forms on nerves. It’s made up of nerve cells and supportive tissue and is usually benign (not cancerous). Neurofibromas can cause symptoms like pain, numbness, or a tingling sensation if they press on nearby nerves. They can appear anywhere in the body and may grow slowly over time. Surgery may be recommended to remove the lesion.
